This weekend is the annual Sled Dog Race. Will be warmer this year then past years. In the past it has been sub-zero. Not sure if the dogs like the warmer weather or don't care as they are creating heat pulling that sled? They seem to love running and don't look to be bothered by much.

Feeding time is late, locals of the woods upset.

Feeding Time!
The friends of the woods must enjoy an easy meal compared to digging in deep snow and chewing on bark. Winter is harsh and while they adapt it does seem kind to offer some help. The controversy of feeding is still around with many pro and cons, but as of yet it’s not illegal to feed in the Northland. They become very tame and trusting after some time.

Another visitor!
The mystery of the black squirrel. There are myths that you can't hunt them.
Some believe they are meaner then others. Or that they can be only found in the north.
But the truth is it's just a Grey squirrel with a dye job. But it seems they are more common in the north. I've yet to see one south of Portage Wisconsin line.

How does Mr. Red keep warm?
He has to get out and feed his furnace! Red Squirrels have extremely high metabolic rates in winter in order to keep warm. When extreme sub zero cold comes they stay in their nests longer and venture out for food when it's warmer. If they are lucky like this fuzzy fellow they have a well stocked feeder nearby.

Colorful Towing
Just north of Washburn on the way to Bayfield is Ron's Auto Repair. Each holiday season he puts out a wonderful display of a antique tow truck and what I think is a 55 Chevy car being towed all decorated in Christmas lights.
It's a wonderful display that is better then any sign that a business could use.

Welcome to the Bayfield Wisconsin Homepage Blog
I'll update with things of interest and photos on a regular basis. Currently the ice road is about to open but as of yet the windsled is still running.
The Ice Caves are not yet safe and on the website you can find the number to call for updates.
Snow levels are about 20 inches on the ground. X-Country trails are excellent.
Conditions are excellent at Mt. AshWaBay and they are running their new chairlift.
See the link on the website for ski conditions.
Thanks for visiting!
