A bit cloudy and a chance of a few showers but that doesn't stop the Holiday Sailing.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

The official start of the tourism season. While summer isn't official until June 21st I declare summer starting now. And all these friends of the woods agree. It's here and time to get out and play in Wisconsin and the Lake Superior Region. The weather really is going to be wonderful.
And just think of why we have this holiday, imagine fighting in WWII or any war, some people have really made sacrifices that are beyond our imagination. There is a service in Memorial Park on the Bayfield Waterfront on Monday. Local volunteers have worked hard on the gardens in the park and painted the benches. It's all groomed for our pleasure due to their hard work.

The season begins.......

During the winter you could roll a bowling ball down Rittenhouse Avenue and likely never hit a thing. That all is about to change this weekend and hopefully so. Tourism is the life blood of Bayfield and thankfully there are very loyal visitors that seem to come no matter what is happening in the world. Sometimes more and sometimes less but they always come. I think it's important to alter the routine and get out of that rut. It really opens the eyes to see the big lake and some great scenery. Some nice dinners are wonderful also and the Bayfield area has some nice places to dine. Tomorrow night I'm guessing the Madeline Ferry will be full of cars heading to summer homes on Madeline Island or Big Bay campground for the weekend.

They are back!

They might be early this year? Normally I think they bloom in June? But the warmer then normal spring has them blooming now. They aren't native but I like them anyhow.

Spring brings new visitors to Bayfield.

Not all the new visitors to the area are tourists. But they are new visitors. This new little fellow is discovering the world for the first time and is very curious. No bear cubs seen yet. But they are likely around.

Bayfield in Bloom Garden Talk program

Today kicks off another Bayfield in Bloom spring event. It starts with a program presented by Wisconsin Public Radio on their "Garden Talk" Friday program. This Friday program at 11am each week features interesting information about gardening. They broadcasted live from the Bayfield Pavillion. The Host of the 11am to 12:30pm program is the popular Larry Meiller.
Public Radio is like oxygen if you ask me. I can't imagine driving around the Northland without it.

Mother's Day weekend/snow in May

A surprise on Mother's Day weekend, snow in May! Some areas in the snowbelt got half a foot south of Hurley in Montreal. Bayfield got a nice dusting of snow. The meadow looks more like fall then May. If you look closely in the second picture you can see one of the friends of the woods looking for something to eat.

Bernie says Hello!

Yes I've used this picture before but it's a classic. Bernie the bear is waving hello and saying hey put that bird feeder back up as I'm hungry. If you have any left over venison sausage it would be greatly appreciated also. I wonder if he drinks Honey Ale Beer?

May weather

Spring is in full swing and it's greening up in Bayfield area. It even looks fallish like with the early leaves. The painted turtle was out sunning himself. Bayview Beach is showing a bit more sand as the lake level is down slightly. Spotted on a recent evening drive was a interesting fox with white on the tip of his tail and a solo coyote out hunting also. I've yet to see a bear this spring.
